Mark Carruth Brings Diverse Background to Active Adult Market
Windsong PropertiesJUNE 2008 - As a third generation homebuilder, Mark Carruth has been building homes since the age of 16. In college, Carruth pursued a medical career briefly, but as a junior decided his passion was building homes. Carruth graduated from the University of Georgia with a Business Degree with an emphasis in real estate. After college, Carruth worked in the Macon and Atlanta residential and commercial markets before starting his first company, Loren Construction. Carruth now brings that diverse background to the active adult market at Windsong Properties, which he founded with Steve Romeyn to meet a demand fueled by the baby boomers and the change in demographics.

Windsong is Carruth’s fourth company and is his first company focused solely on the active adult market. Carruth relates to the active adult as an empty nester himself, and he uses that personal experience and merged it with his building experience.

“Building for the active adult market is just as much about building a lifestyle as it is building the actual home,” said Carruth. “People go through a lot of changes in their fifties. Whether it is career-related, family-related or health-related, Windsong allows active adults to live a lower-maintenance lifestyle in a community of like-minded people.”

Windsong pays attention to the details that make living simple for the active adult. Homes are single-level, have no steps, are EasyLiving certified and have wider openings creating wheelchair accessibility. The homes are smaller, but the individual rooms are more spacious.

After 30 years of building homes, Carruth still enjoys the process and works hard to make it enjoyable for his clients as well. “Clients are excited about the custom building process, but have reservations because they have heard so many horror stories about the homebuilding process,” said Carruth. “I just want the process to be fun. You do not want your client to be worn out or stressed; and you want the results to be positive.”

When he’s not building homes, Carruth enjoys playing golf, boating or traveling to his second home on Hilton Head Island. Carruth is also actively involved with Habitat for Humanity and the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s Association. For more information, call 770-516-3409 or click here.

Brock Built Builds a Better Community
Brock BuiltJune 2008 – Atlanta’s largest intown homebuilder, Brock Built, is partnering with WSB-TV Channel 2 in the “Going Green 2008” campaign, an important program addressing an issue that is changing the quality of life of every citizen in Georgia. As part of that effort, Brock Built has started construction on an environmentally-friendly demonstration home in its Atlanta West Highlands Community. When complete, the new home will be open for tours and auctioned to the highest bidder with all proceeds going to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Groundbreaking for The Green House began in March and work is progressing quickly. When complete, the home will showcase environmentally friendly and sustainable design features attainable for the typical Atlanta family. Contributions are being solicited for funds, services, building materials, fixtures, appliances and everything else necessary to build the home. All participating vendors are required to demonstrate that their contribution will promote EarthCraft standards.

The EarthCraft program is a voluntary green building program which serves as a blueprint for healthy, comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment. EarthCraft homes are thoroughly inspected and tested (for factors such as air leakage and carbon monoxide safety) before the homeowner moves in. They are proven to help save energy and water and conserve natural resources. They are more affordable because they help homeowners lower energy costs by up to 30%, lower maintenance and repair costs, and even lower doctor’s bills for health problems related to poor indoor air quality.

Construction on The Green House is expected to be complete in August, when the public will be invited to tour the home. WSB –TV will film the entire building process and will run a special one-hour prime time program in September telling the story of the innovative partnership behind the home’s creation, as well as the remarkable transformation of the larger West Highlands community.

The Green House will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in October 2008. All proceeds from the sale will be given to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization that provides care, research, teaching, wellness and charity care for the children of Atlanta.

Not only that, it also makes our homes healthier and more comfortable to live in. Buyers won’t be disappointed.”

The Providence Group Dedicates Covered Bridge at Woodbridge Crossing to Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon Ribbon cutting ceremony held Tuesday, March 25
April 2008 - More than 200 guests joined The Providence Group as the new home builder dedicated the covered bridge at Woodbridge Crossing to Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon on Tuesday, March 25th. To commemorate the opening of the bridge, special guests, including agents, homeowners and representatives from the media, attended a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration sponsored by Countrywide Financial at the community. View our video.

Woodbridge Crossing is located in the Concord Covered Bridge Historic Area of Smyrna. The community features single-family courtyard and garden homes priced from the low $400,000s to the $500,000s.

“The dedication of the new bridge at Woodbridge Crossing was a success,” said Ginny Bryant, Director of Marketing for The Providence Group. “We were honored to have so many special guests attend, including Mayor Max Bacon, City Council Representative Pete Wood, Harold Smith with the Smyrna Historical Society and Titus Edwards a representative from York Bridge Concepts, the company that designed and built our one-of-a-kind bridge at Woodbridge Crossing. It was a delight to see the mayor’s face when we unveiled the plaque announcing that the bridge was named after him. We hope this bridge will be a joy to residents of the community and Smyrna for many years to follow.”

During the event, guests were invited to tour the model homes and clubhouse at the community and were treated to a catered lunch by Carolyn’s Gourmet Café. Numerous prizes were given away throughout the day, including a custom pub bar, bar stools, and four teak lounge chairs donated by Towne Lake Heating and Air, a flat screen TV, spa gift certificates, gift certificates to local restaurants Atkins Park and McCray’s Tavern, gym memberships with a personal trainer, and $1,500 in cash.

Designed exclusively for the property, York Bridge Concepts built the bridge at Woodbridge Crossing. Plan to take part in the 2008 Spring Parade of Homes
April 2008 – During the weekends of April 19 & 20 and 26 & 27 more than 100 new homes throughout the Atlanta region will be part of the 2008 Spring Parade of Homes. This year’s Parade will be unlike any other, combining the forces of four local Home Builders Associations. During the Parade, guests can tour a variety of home styles and types built by a variety of builders.

“There has never been a better time to buy a new home than now.” said David Ellis, executive vice president of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association. “As a steady demand for new homes continues, we are seeing the current inventory supply shrinking. Lower housing prices and special incentives will soon be a thing of the past as builders begin to sell their current inventory. The Spring Parade of Homes offers new home shoppers and those who are considering buying a new home the opportunity to visit a variety of communities, and to speak with real estate agents and buyers.”

The 2008 Parade of Homes is free and open to the public. Specifics on builders and communities participating are available on www.paradeofhomesatlanta.com.

“This event comes at a perfect time,” continues Ellis. “Today’s real estate market is truly a buyers’ market. For many, that makes owning a dream home an even more affordable option than previously thought. Interest rates remain low, increasing how much home can be bought for the same monthly payment than with higher interest rates. A strong job market and great incentives are also contributing factors, making now the best time to buy a new home and get a great deal.”

The Parade will be held the weekends of April 19 & 20 and 26 & 27, with an option to have the homes open the week in between. Each participating home will be featured on the Parade’s Web site, which will feature extensive searching and mapping capabilities. Listings will be featured on the site until the 2009 Parade of Homes. For more information on the Parade of Homes, please visit www.paradeofhomesatlanta.com
